"I Still Dream of Orgonon", Mimosa Echard, ©Isabelle Giovacchini

Born in Alès in 1986, Mimosa Echard studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris where she currently works. Her artistic practice encompasses a wide diversity of processes and media (assemblage, painting, ceramic, etc.) and explores the various intermediary stages between the natural world and that of trade. Her pieces destroy these processes, reverting to a previous evolutionary stage which features non-linear archaeology and gathers fauna, pop icons and other rare fossils.

The orgonite dreamed up by Austrian psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich in the 1930s, and his system for storing and channelling energy, is a starting point for the artist’s project included in Faisons de l’inconnu un allié. Mimosa Echard’s work is inspired by regular exchanges with the inhabitants of the village in Cévennes where she grew up. They supply her with the mineral (granite blocks), vegetable (mushrooms and dried leaves) or organic (snakeskin) items that make up the artist’s pieces and often serve as a counterpoint to other more prosaic sources from modern life like hair-removal creams, fake nails or dietary supplements.

Her alchemical parallels will serve as an energy-generator matrix at the heart of a large-scale installation created for the exhibit.
