mutant stage 2
The second episode of the Mutant Stage series was filmed in November 2014 by Elene Usdin. It is a fable that gives birth to various combinations of bodies and objects.
“Imaginary creatures emerge from this episode. They mimic Man’s everyday gestures which objects had also attempted to recreate, out of nostalgia. Numerous transformations stem from these interactions: the mattress becomes a soft shell; the electric cables turn the dancer’s body into a spider untangling its web. Resembling urban and concrete animals, these surrealist creatures reference Ovide’s Metamorphisis.” - Elene Usdin
Elene Usdin is an illustrator and photographer. Haunted by her dreams, she turns her enchanted vision of the world into images, colored with infinite imagination. Her thoroughly scripted photos combine a quest for the marvelous and with a play on gender.
Sia Kim is a passionate dancer, choreographer and professor. She first studied traditional and classical dance in Korea before she devoting herself to contemporary dance, more instinctive and raw. She now pursues a solo career in France.
the mutant stage project
Mutant Stage is a series of choreographed short films initiated by Amélie Couillard and Dimitri Chamblas, and produced by Lafayette Anticipations – Fondation d’entreprise Galeries Lafayette during the renovation of its 9 rue du Plâtre building between 2015 to 2018.
Throughout the renovation conducted by OMA and Rem Koolhaas, and until the public opening of the Fondation at the beginning of 2018, the 9 rue du Plâtre building is the object of an investigation into its own mutation. The evolving architecture is measured over the months by in situ encounters between directors and performers. Each shoot serves the opportunity for a different encounter that sets bodies and matter into motion, breathing life into the changing building.
AMéLIE COUILLAUD ET DIMITRI CHAMBLAS
Amélie Couillaud and Dimitri Chamblas initiate and produce projects in cooperation with artists from various fields, particularly from the field of choreography, to displace the usual spaces of dance and bring together multiple partners, not just at the conception stage, but also during production and distribution.
